The Miami-Dade County Special Election is scheduled for next Tuesday, but the deadline to get absentee ballots is a little more than 24 hours away.
Less than 24 hours before Election Day, Democrats in Florida have jumped to a 167,000 vote lead over Republicans out of the 4.5 million early votes and absentee ballots that have been cast thus far.
Early voting is almost half-way over and between it and absentee ballots, nearly 2.7 million ballots have already been cast in Florida, according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald.
Democrats hopes for taking an early lead in the presidential race in Florida will be fully underway on Saturday when early voting begins statewide. But, unlike in 2008, there will be less days for voters to cast their votes early.
Absentee ballots have been going out for weeks and the return rate could be foreshadowing a record turnout on Election Day.
While nearly 1 million people have cast an absentee vote already this election season, business at the voting booths will begin to pick up starting Saturday when early voting kicks off in Florida.
