Homeland Security Rolls Out Immigration Rules As New Trump Travel Ban Expected

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – As President Donald Trump is expected to roll out a new travel and immigration ban, Homeland Security outlined some new rules of their own.
Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly unveiled tougher guidelines aimed at undocumented immigrants Tuesday morning.
Two memos signed by Kelly outline plans for the department to implement President Trump's executive orders calling for stepped up border security and tougher enforcement of immigration laws.
"What we're talking abut today is the implementation of those two orders," said White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.
About 10,000 more ICE Agents and 5,000 more Border Patrol Agents will be hired.
The department also plans on increasing the number of immigrants to be deported including those deemed a risk to public safety or those who may have committed a crime but were not charged for the alleged offense.
According to the newly released rules, Mexican immigrants detained at the border will be immediately returned. Parents can also be prosecuted for paying smugglers to bring their children across the U.S. border.
The new guidelines include a directive to shift money to start the design and construction of a wall along the Mexican border, something the president say Mexico will pay for but the country's president Enrique Peña Nieto says they will not pay for the wall. Mexico's president will be able to reiterate that claim when he meets with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly on Wednesday.
The new rules also add more barriers to immigrants trying to claim asylum but will not affect those brought into the U.S. illegally as children.
Meantime, President Trump is expected to roll out a new travel and immigration ban this week to replace the one tied up in the court system. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said during the daily briefing that the second order will be tailored to what the court has ordered but will complete the tasks the first travel ban was meant to do.

The president began his Tuesday morning by touring the National African-American Museum with his daughter Ivanka Trump in honor of National African American History Month. Following his tour, the president shared a few thoughts on the matter.
"I pledge to do everything I can to continue that promise of freedom for African-Americans and every American," said the president.
The president said he would do anything to root out "hate, prejudice, and evil."
President Trump touted his nomination for HUD Secretary - Ben Carson- who was his former rival.
"We're going to do great things in the African-American community together," said Trump.
