MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Gunshots in the middle of the night brought Miami-Dade Police to a Miami apartment complex early Sunday morning.
The shots were heard around 1:00 a.m. at the Fontainebleau Milton Apartment Rentals complex.
“Police received a 911 call from a male caller, stating something occurred at 9621 Fontainebleau Blvd,” said Miami-Dade Police. “The caller did not provide an apartment number and/or exact location. Uniform officers responded and were unable to locate any incident.”
It wasn’t until five hours later that a woman would return home to find her roommate shot to death.
Officials called it a domestic-related incident.
“It is very quiet, you know? I feel comfortable in this place,” said resident Nestor Yanani. “But I’m not expecting that.”
For people who live in the complex and around the area, the heavy police presence was shocking.
“Extremely concerning because this is a really common area,” said Cindy Melo. “I don’t live here, per se, but I drop off people here all the time and I’ve never had, in the times I’ve lived here, I’ve never heard of anything like that. It’s crazy.”
It also concerned newer tenants.
“I’m completely shocked,” said Rin Ayaka. “I mean, it’s pretty much a peaceful place. We just happen to occupy it about two months back, so to get this kind of news, well, obviously, you know, I’m a little concerned.”
Investigators do have a suspect.
They’ve issued an alert for Oscar Lopez, 28, who may be driving a gray Chevy Camaro with Florida tag number “GCS A34.”
