MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A sad day for sure, but with plenty of happy memories.

Family, friends and colleagues are gathering in Miami for a memorial service to remember Janet Reno, the nation's first female attorney general who died last month at age 78.

The Sunday service takes place at a Miami-Dade College campus not far from the longtime Reno family home.

Reno died there Nov. 7 of complications from Parkinson's disease, which she battled for 20 years.

Reno was Miami-Dade's top prosecutor before then-President Bill Clinton made her his attorney general in 1993, a post she kept throughout his presidency.

Reno was a central figure in many controversial issues of the 1990s, including the deadly raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas and the return to Cuba of 5-year-old Elian Gonzalez instead of allowing him to remain with Miami relatives.
