DAVIE (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins returned to South Florida from their road game in Baltimore late Sunday night anxious to get back to work.

After six straight wins, the Dolphins were brought crashing down to earth by the Ravens.

Miami linebacker Kiko Alonso injured his hand during the first half but returned and finished the game with a cast on his hand.

Turns out the injury was a broken thumb on his right hand.

On Monday Dolphins coach Adam Gase was asked about Alonso's status following the game.

"Not good. [He] broke his thumb, had surgery," Gase said. "Right now, we'll see where he's at for next week. There is a chance that he can play. It's just going to be really how everything went. I'll have a better idea, really, probably tomorrow."

While Alonso has yet to be ruled out for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, the chances of him suiting up that soon after surgery aren't good.

It's been a resurgent season for Alonso, who has played well for Miami despite battling several injuries as the season has progressed.

Recently he's been dealing with a hamstring injury.

"He's banged up, probably more than that," Gase said. "He's one of those guys that doesn't complain a whole bunch."

This season Alonso leads the Dolphins with 59 tackles.  He also has two interceptions and leads the NFL with four fumble recoveries.
