Thanksgiving Turns Into Life-Changing Holiday For Triplets With Tumors

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Thanksgiving turned into a truly life-changing, life-saving holiday for the parents of triplets.

The 8-year-old sisters all have brain tumors. The day after Thanksgiving they met their new angel.

"I'm excited about meeting them. It was meant to be," said Joe Miranda, who is helping the family.

Triplets Ellie, Gigi and Carmina all have debilitating brain tumors, requiring surgeries and treatment at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami. But the Cosenos were forced to sell many belongings, including their second car.

Enter Mr. Miranda, who saw their story on Wednesday on CBS4 News.

"So this is the one car the family has now, dad using it each for 12 to 14 hours a day at work, leaving mom and the triplets without a viable, affordable way to get from Sunrise to Miami where the girls have frequent doctor's visits," CBS4's Donna Rapado said on screen Wednesday. "If you think you can adopt this family, provide them with a car or help them in any other way, call Neighbors 4 Neighbors at this number on your screen."

"My wife and I were both looking at the piece," Miranda told Rapado on Friday.  "And we both look at each other and we both nodded like, 'yes, we need to do something here. There was no thinking about it. It was a done deal and so I immediately called and left a message."

So, Joe and wife Susan Miranda donated a 2004 KIA SUV in good condition to the Cosenos. They're also sending the young family to an all-expense paid trip to visit Legoland in central Florida and there's more.

"Then I want to sit down and I want to see what they need," said Miranda.  "I want to make sure one thing's for sure - those kids, this Christmas are going to have a great Christmas.  I also want to see what Kim and Joe need to make things a little easier for them."

"I was in shock really.  I couldn't believe it," said the triplets' mom, Kim Coseno about getting the phone call Thanksgiving morning, less than 24 hours after their story aired.

"Truly blessed, we can get to the doctors now," Mrs. Coseno told Rapado.  "I can't tell them how much this truly changes what we're able to do for the girls. Which is what it's about."

"We're just truly thankful they came into our lives," added dad Joe Coseno.  "We get to meet them and the things they've done for us.  It's truly amazing.  And it's changed our holiday and our life."

As if giving the Cosenos an all-expense paid vacation, a merry Christmas and much more going forward wasn't enough, the vehicle Mr. Miranda gave them also has new tires and new brakes.  He'll take it in for service before handing over the keys.
