DAVIE (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins defense has been playing very well of late and the unit may be getting a little boost from a former top draft pick.

Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan is expected to return to practice on Wednesday, according to the Miami Herald.

Jordan was selected by Miami with the third overall draft pick in 2013 but has largely been a disappointment.

He last played for the Dolphins in December of 2014 and hasn't practiced with the team in nearly two years.

Jordan was suspended for the entire 2015 season by the NFL for multiple violations of the league's substance abuse policy.

The Dolphins have a three-week period in which to allow Jordan to practice and see if he's ready to be activated for a game.

Jordan has undergone two knee procedures since the summer and has yet to look anything close to 100 percent during the few times he's been in front of the media.

Head coach Adam Gase has said that Jordan gets a clean slate with the new coach, the same that every other player including Ryan Tannehill has received.
