Bald Eagles Rescued From Storm Drain

ORLANDO (CBSMiami/AP) - Two bald eagles were rescued from a storm drain in Orlando.

The birds were found one on top of the other with wings spread. Many thought the bird on top may have been protecting the other one. But wildlife officials say it was probably quite the opposite.

"They tend to just fall. They get into a territory fight and they get locked, they lock and they fall and they hang on for dear life," said Dianna Flynt with the Audobon Center for Birds of Prey.

One of the birds managed to fly away after about an hour. A rescue team freed the second eagle and it was taken in by specialists after it suffered several injuries.

Flynt said it will take a few weeks before the eagle makes a full recovery and is released into the wild.
