Trump Calls For Unity After Presidential Win

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - President elect Donald Trump has called for unity after his stunning victory over Hillary Clinton.
Trump supporters cheered as the returns came in Tuesday evening into Wednesday as the real estate billionaire won the battleground states of Ohio, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and, of course, Florida.
Just before 3 a.m. Trump walked on stage at the Hilton in Midtown New York and told the crowd of a phone call he'd received just minutes earlier. He said he spoke to Mrs. Clinton and she congratulated him on his victory, and he congratulated her and her family on a very hard fought campaign.

Trump struck a different, more gracious and conciliatory tone in his speech to a ballroom full of supporters, some who jumped on board the trump train at the outset and others, like New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Dr. Ben Carson, who joined the movement later in the game.
"I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be President for all Americans and this is so important to me. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, in which there were a few people, I am reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country," he said. "As I have said from the beginning, ours was not a campaign, but rather an incredible and great movement."

Trump was surrounded by family and his closest advisers on stage along with his running mate and Vice President elect Governor Mike Pence.
"Republicans, Democrats, Independents. It is time for us to come together as one united people," said Trump.
Wednesday morning, Trump again expressed his call for unity in a tweet on his official account.

Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly sent a telegram congratulating Trump.
President Barack Obama called Trump early this Wednesday morning to congratulate him on his win. He also invited him to the White House on Thursday to update him on the transition planning his team has been working on for nearly a year.
