MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The passage of Amendment 2, allowing the use of medical marijuana in Florida, is offering hope to a number of people with debilitating illnesses.

Adele Osorio has suffered from nerve muscle and joint pain for 16 years and has finally found some relief with medical marijuana.

"I'm homebound 85 percent of the time and never know how I'm going to feel," said Osorio.

Under the law, doctors can prescribe medical marijuana for conditions like cancer, Parkinson's, Multiple sclerosis (MS), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), AIDS and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Doctors can start prescribing in nine months and the states will regulate shops selling it.

Attorney John Morgan who spearheaded the passage calls it a personal victory. His brother is a quadriplegic.

The 'Vote No' group which fought against the passage released a statement which said they hope lawmakers will pass legislation that bans pot candy, puts a limit on THC levels or the high of the marijuana and give local communities the right to limit restrict and outright ban pot shops.
