MIAMI (CBSMiami) - It was a record setting Sunday as early voting wrapped up across most of the state.

On Sunday alone, nearly 100-thousand voters cast their ballots.

The state's elections department said about half of Florida's 12.9 million active registered voters took advantage of early voting and vote by mail.

In Miami-Dade, 475,867 voters cast ballots during the early voting period. Another 287,224 voted by mail, bringing the number of ballots cast in Miami so far to 763,091.

In Broward, 426,498 people voted early and another 188,489 people mailed in their ballot, bringing the total to 614,987.

While early voting is over in Florida, vote-by-mail ballots are still coming in - they will be accepted until Election Day.

About 800,000 vote-by-mail ballots hadn't been returned as of Sunday and most had been requested by Democrats.

The state reported Sunday that almost 348,000 Democratic vote-by-mail ballots and almost 271,000 delivered to Republicans hadn't been returned. Another 210,000 ballots delivered to voters not registered with either major party also hadn't been returned.
