On The Radar: Season Series – Part 11

Larry BlockSFHSSports: Twitter | Facebook

It's the last week of the 2016 regular season – and while many programs are headed on to the playoffs – there are several senior football players who do not have a college scholarship offer.

Every year, parents, athletes and coaches are scrambling this time of year to get that final push that is required to get some college interest.

Recruiting is a tough and competitive business – and with so many quality athletes here in South Florida – there are less and less scholarships available.

The success that this region of the country enjoys every year is often what hurts so many of our athletes. With so many football prospects and very few options, the months of November, December and much of January are spent getting film out and continue to make contact with coaches all over the country.

Because we helped to get over 100 football players a look last year during and after National Signing Day, many look to us for assistance this time of year – and while we can only do so much to help.

Part of what we do is to get names out and provide the exposure needed to keep those dreams alive.

Every week during the course of a season, we get names out every week. This week, we have five athletes in the Class of 2017 and one underclassman to help out. Check them out.

2017 – Kiron Brown, CB/WR, 5-11, 150, Coral Springs Taravella: Here is a versatile football player who will remain in the mix for a place to go next year. Coming off a season where a lot was learned with a new coaching staff, Brown is one of many who benefits from the added exposure. He is a two-way football talent that has made major strides at this level – and is looking to do the same in college. His best years are ahead of him – and now the colleges need to see that as well.

2018 – Terrell Cofield, OLB/S, 6-2, 200, Doral Academy: Our only underclass prospect this week is one that will certainly blow up in the offseason. Cofield is regarded as one of the top athletes in the junior class who has a real chance to make a huge splash. This is an athletic playmaker who really has it all – and with a productive playoff run, he could easily be a name that everyone will be watching in the offseason. When you watch this young man play, you will see what he is special. His talent jumps right out at you.

2017 – Lio'undre Gallimore, WR, 5-8, 160, Hialeah Gardens Mater Academy: Another of those seniors who will need to turn it up in the playoffs and down the stretch. Another very gifted talent that we saw last year and realized that he could be very special. Gallimore has speed and athletic ability and knows how to run the ball when he gets into space. Will be a very impressive slot player who has plenty of skills, but just lacks that overall experience. He is the kind of student/athlete who will be brought along slowly at the next level. Gallimore has a solid football background and is very coachable.

2017 – Juwan Marshall, CB/OLB, 5-10, 170, Davie Nova: When you talk about athletes who have the potential and are willing to do what it takes to not only win, but to showcase his talents to college coaches – here is the prospect that the Titans have been promoting and getting out for all to see. Marshall is a hard-hitting defensive player who will be a corner or safety at the next level, although he has been used at linebacker to help the team.

2017 – Antoine Murray, WR, 6-0, 180, Miramar: In a region of the country that is so stacked with receivers, it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. But for those who have played with and against him all feel that this is one of those elite players who just has not been showcased the way he needs to be. Murray has speed, strength, blocks well and catches against anyone. He is one of those football talents who will one day be surrounded with all the talent he needs to further help is down star shine. Remember this name, because down the line, he will emerge as one of those difference makers. He has that kind of talent.

2017 – Michael Rangel, OL/DL, 5-10 276, South Miami: Yet another football player, despite the fact that his team was not among the best, found a way to showcase his skills. This two-way line prospect showed leadership and plenty of talent this season for the Cobras. Big time potential who just needs to get some postseason all-star exposure – which will give the college coaches additional views. Rangel has learned to play the line from watching and being coached up. This is a young man who wants to play this game – after this year is over.
