Police Searching For Suspects After Shooting At Wake Kills Two

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Two men were gunned down as they attended a wake for another man at a home in northwest Miami-Dade on Saturday.
One of them was a city of Miami firefighter, the other an expecting father.
While grieving loved ones gathered as part of the home on northwest 43rd street and 31st court at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, police said several men approached with guns and sprayed bullets at the group.
Hit and killed were 23-year-old firefighter Chadrick Davis and 22-year-old Sirernest Williams, a father-to-be.
"It's just crazy," said Williams's grandmother Maxine McKinnon. "He had a baby on the way. He just had a reveal shower last week Saturday. And he was there and his friend who got killed was supposed to be the godfather."
Davis was a 2-year firefighter with the Miami Fire Department. He followed in his father's footsteps, a retired fire lieutenant with the city of Miami.
Killed just two houses away from the home where he lived with his family, Davis's father paced quietly, anxiously as he watched police work the scene.
Hours later, on Saturday afternoon, Miami-Dade Police were still processing the crime scene.
At Miami Fire Station 2 near Wynwood, the flag is at half-staff. Davis's co-workers, who put their lives on the line each day, were shocked when they arrived before dawn for their shift Saturday and learned Davis wouldn't be coming in, too. And why.
"I would describe Chadrick as being a very bright young man, very knowledgeable, humble and quiet," described Captain Toriano Iridarry. "It's a great loss. A tremendous loss. We lost not only family, not only a friend, but a colleague. You know, he was a family member here at fire station 2. He was a trememndous loss to this fire department. A young man who had a lot going on."
"To die like that in your own community, off-duty at a wake paying your respects to someone else and to be killed in a senseless act is very, very frustrating," said firefighter Gabriel Ross.
"We need to stop this madness," Detective Jennifer Capote said. "We need to stop these shootings. Whether they're children or adults, we have lives that are being killed out here, family members constantly grieving. We are probably at about three this week. We need this to stop."
