MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Kevin James is back on series TV as a newly retired police officer looking forward to spending carefree, quality time with his wife and three kids, only to discover he faces tougher challenges at home than he ever did on the streets.

"I've been wanting to come back for a long time. I've missed it" said James. "It was a perfect time and a perfect idea on the perfect network so I'm excited about that it all worked out," said James.

Kevin's retirement plans consist of chilling with his family and having epic adventures with fellow retirees but his wife, played by actress Erinn Hayes has some other ideas.

"I think it's everybody managing what retirement looks like," said Hayes. "He just thinks it will be like a 16-year old in summer time ,with water parks and go-carts and she's like I want you to help out in the house, spend time with the family and he's like uhghhhhh".

"Men can be a little clueless at home, right," asked CBS4's Lisa Petrillo.

"I'm sorry, starting to lose you, Lisa what did you say," joked Kevin.

Kevin, who's both a writer and co-executive producer on the show, says there's a lot of reasons why he's so happy to be back on series TV.

"Doing it with a great cast and doing it in front of a live audience in authentic Long Island and making Long Island a character in the show and bringing something back to TV that everyone can watch and identify something with these characters," said Kevin.

Kevin, who is a father of four, grew up in Long Island and lives there now. He made sure this show was not shot in a fake Hollywood film studio. This is real-life Long Island action - just how he likes it.

Kevin Can Wait premieres Monday night on CBS4 at 8:30 p.m.
