MINNEAPOLIS (CBSMiami) - Chaos erupted at a mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota when a man armed with a knife, and dressed in a private security uniform, went on the attack and injured nine people.

An islamic state-run news agency is calling the attacker a 'soldier of the islamic state.
Officials say the attacker, a man in his 20s, mentioned Allah during the spree and asked people if they were Muslim, before deciding whether to attack.

Members of the Muslim community expressed their condolences to the victims of the stabbings, and called the attack "a tragedy".

"We want to strongly condemn any terrorist act in America and the world," said Central Minnesota Community Empowerment Organization Executive Director Abdul Kulane. "We don't believe in violence, and with anyone who takes the matter in his hands and hurts other people, and we strongly condemn that."

"We are shocked just like you, and we are all grieving just like you. This is an act of an individual, and we want our community to realize this," said Council For American-Islamic Relations Executive Director Jaylani Hussein.

Authorities are crediting an off-duty police officer, who shot and killed the attacker, for saving lives.
