MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A mother of six was shot overnight in Miami.
Family members say that woman, 35-year-old Shaqueenia Hanna, was shot by a man multiple times in front of her home at 450 NW 73rd Terrace.
Tamika Wallace, who said she is a close friend of Hanna, told CBS4’s Peter D’Oench, “Shaqueenia has a heart of gold. She has six kids on her own but she would help anybody out. She would give anybody and their kids a place to stay. She would give them the shirt off her back. She was a fun, loving sweet person, very caring and kind.”
Hanna was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital where she was listed in critical condition.
Wallace said, “She is going to be okay because she is a fighter.”
The shooting prompted a series of posts on the victim’s Facebook page.
One person wrote, “Shaqueenia I am praying for you cuz.”
Another person posted, “My heart is saddened by such violence, baby. My prayers are with you and your family.”
“This was a cowardly act. Any man that shoots a woman down in front of her kids that many times is a coward, not a man,” said Lisa Sheffield who lives near Hanna.
Wallace said, “My thought about the kids seeing it is that it tears me up because it is something that they are going to carry for the rest of their lives.”
Hanna was standing by her car when it happened. Awanis Fowles saw it happen.
“They were talking right here and then she was attempting to leave him but then he shot her. After she fell down, he shot some more. So after that, he left and I came over and assisted her to make sure she was still breathing and holding her wounds and stuff like that,” said Fowles.
As for the man who shot her, Fowles said it seemed like they knew each other.
“It was somebody she knew, for sure,” Fowles added, “Because they were arguing over a phone.”
“I heard the gunshots, I waited til they were over, I heard kids screaming in the back about their mama so I went outside and looked over and saw the woman on the ground,” said Sheffield. “I just stood over her and prayed over her.”
“From my understanding, it was a baby daddy thing. It’s just sad that any father would do that in front of his own child,” Sheffield added.
Wallace said the shooter was the father of one of her children.
“It’s crazy,” she said. “She hasn’t been with him in over three years. I would say to anyone who knows where he is, please come forward because if you are hiding him, you are just as bad as he is.”
Neighbors, family members, and friends gathered at the hospital, praying that she makes it.
“She was shot over 12 times. That’s a lot. I just pray to God that she makes it. She has some beautiful kids to take care of. She’s a fighter,” said Sheffield.
“I just wish something could have been done before this because I found out there were incidents before this and she asked for help. But now it is too late,” she said.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
