Kaufman: Brazil doesn't "Need Invented Things By Spoiled American Athletes"
Miami Herald Sports writer Michelle Kaufman joined the Big O Show on 560 WQAM from the Rio Olympics to discuss the scandal involving Ryan Lochte and 3 other U.S. Swimmers, as well as the controversy surrounding U.S. Women's Soccer goalie Hope Solo.
On the latest in the Lochte scandal: "There's going to be a press conference with Brazilian Police at 2. There's video of the guys fighting with a security guard at a gas station. There's definitely more to this story."
"[Brazil] has enough negative things, they don't need invented things by spoiled American athletes. I have had nothing but good experiences here. In any city if you're out at five in the morning and you've been partying, bad things may happen. To lay that on Rio is really rude to the Olympic hosts."
"[Lochte] invites [U.S. Swimmers] to a party at the French house, which by the way that neighborhood is very nice where that party was taking place at. It's a gathering place for the team and family. At some point in the night something went wrong, between the start of the party and 7 a.m."
On Hope Solo: "Before Lochte, [Hope] was the ugly American athlete. She's probably sending a thank you note to Ryan Lochte now. For her to continue to act this way, you just don't do that. The Olympics are supposed to be about sportsmanship. She continues to misbehave, to say stupid things. I think they have to be held to a certain standard. She's gone too far, she doesn't seem to get it. She hasn't come out with a true apology. It's time, she's had her time."
