WEST PALM BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — A memorable first day of class for a West Palm middle school student who was hit by a car while playing near an elementary school.

The West Palm Beach Sheriff's Office said the boy and several other children were playing in the street near the bus loop at Egret Lake Elementary School when he bounced off a car. He then ran off and got on his bus, but the bus driver noticed something was wrong and pulled over.

Palm Beach County Superintendent Robert Avossa said the boy was taken to a West Palm Beach hospital and was expected to be fine.

The driver of the car that hit the boy had called the sheriff's office. No charges were immediately filed, and there didn't seem to be any property damage.
