Lauren's List: 4 Ways To Meet New People

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Dating can be daunting, and making new friends as an adult can feel pretty awkward. But relationship experts say putting yourself out there doesn't have to be that complicated.

Today's "Lauren's List" has four ways you can meet and attract new people, as reported in this Reader's Digest article:

  1. Maintain an open body language: First off, put your phone away! If your face is stuck to a screen, you don't exactly appear approachable. Same goes for wearing headphones. Sit up straight, uncross your arms and relax the muscles in your face. All those things combined will help you appear open to meeting new people.
  1. Position yourself strategically: No one will see you if you're hiding out in a dark corner of the club. Sit at the bar, preferably in the middle, right in front of the bartender. At parties, stand or sit near the food or drink stations. Everyone will go there at least once throughout the night!
  1. Do your social research: You can meet new people just about anywhere! But the lasting relationships will likely be forged at places that cater to your hobbies and interests. Check Google for events that fit your passion, and scour social media for things that you can relate to. When you're doing something that makes you comfortable, it's the perfect place for a great conversation.
  1. Identify your habits: Before you can get to know other people, you really need to get to know yourself. Request honest feedback from a trusted friend about their first impressions of you. Getting outside perspective could help you formulate better ways to portray yourself moving forward.
