MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Set in 1950s Ohio, the movie "Indignation" tells the story of a bright, albeit neurotic Jewish teenager named Marcus Messner played by Logan Lerman.

Marcus is from Newark, New Jersey and is enrolled in a Midwestern university to avoid enlisting in the Korean War.

"It's a coming of age story and I think anyone can relate to it," Lerman said. "A lot of work went into trying to understand my character. The Jewish aspect was easy but the rest took a lot of research."

Marcus is the only son of a kosher butcher and his suffocating wife who've grown even more controlling since many of his childhood friends lost their lives in the war. Marcus hopes college in Ohio will be a breath of fresh air, only to find everyone - from his roommates to the recruiters for the only Jewish fraternity on campus - are all trying to tell him what to do.

That's when he meets Olivia Hutton, played by Sarah Gadon.

"Olivia is a very complex character," Gadon said. "She is certainly struggling with a dark past and a dark family history."

This is an Independent film which premiered at The Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews. For the actors, it was an experience of a lifetime.

"This is an original film not unlike everything else out there," Lerman said.

"It's about two really bright young Americans who are bumping up against the ideology of time. They can't fit in and because they can't fit in, it becomes fatal for both of them," said Gadon.

"Anyone who wants to be surprised, entertained and provoked to watch something original and have interesting conversations after about life, this is the movie for you," said Lerman.a
