LAUDERHILL (CBSMiami) – Doris Striggles said she was inside her home Tuesday afternoon when she heard and felt something hit it.

"I just heard a loud boom like a thundering," Striggles said.

Lauderhill police said the driver of a work van smashed through a power pole, knocked down a fence and slammed into Striggles' home.

Striggles, a mother of four, said she had just gotten up off her front step where the driver ended up.

"I just had come in like 10 minutes before it happened," she said.

She said her daughter suffered minor cuts from glass and her other three children were not injured.

Police said the driver of the van was pinned in the vehicle and was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

"The driver thought that he was pressing the brakes on the vehicle but inadvertently hit the accelerator," said Lauderhill Police Lt. Greg Solowsky.

Lauderhill police said that based on preliminary estimates they believe the driver was doing between 30 to 45 mph when he hit the house.

Police said the impact forced the front door into the middle of the living room.

Striggles' home is uninhabitable and she said she plans to stay with relatives. She's grateful the damage wasn't worse.

"When I saw it I said 'Oh my God, look at this. Thank God we're living,'" she said.

Police said they will likely charge the driver with careless driving.
