Marlins Players Represent Well At All-Star Game In San Diego

The Miami Marlins are having one of the best seasons the team has seen in over a decade, sitting six games over .500 and tied for a playoff spot at the All-Star Break.

People in South Florida aren't the only ones taking notice as five Marlins were selected to participate in the All-Star Game, or in Giancarlo Stanton's case, the Home Run Derby.

It was a great experience for the (mostly) youngsters, especially Jose Fernandez, A.J. Ramos and Marcell Ozuna.

Fernando Rodney also had a great time and received a huge ovation from the crowd at San Diego's Petco Park.

Rodney was traded from the Padres to Miami just weeks before the midsummer classic. He's having one of the best seasons in his 14-year career.

Overall the All-Star Game events in San Diego were a rousing success for the Marlins players, and here's a recap of how they did.

Giancarlo Stanton: Home Run Derby Champion, sets new record with 61 total homers.

Stanton put on one heck of a show, knocking baseballs to parts of Petco Park that had never been reached before.  He took down Robinson Cano 24-7 in round one, beat fellow slugger Mark Trumbo 17-14 in the semifinals and knocked out defending champion Todd Fraizer 20-13 in the finals.

Jose Fernandez: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

It must have been a little strange for Jose to come out of the bullpen but he started things off with a nice strikeout of Mike Trout. He also had some fun the night before during Giancarlo's home run stampede.

Marcell Ozuna: 2 AB, 1 H, 1 RBI, 1 K

On a day where the National League only scored a pair of runs, Ozuna brought in one of the two with an RBI single off of Toronto's Aaron Sanchez.

Fernando Rodney: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Rodney received a standing ovation from the fans at Petco Park as he came into the game and showed the Padres fans that he was still dealing.

A.J. Ramos: Did not appear

Poor A.J. didn't get a chance to pitch in the All-Star Game.  He still had a fun time though.
