MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Two people were killed in an overnight shooting in Miami Gardens.

Around 12:15 a.m., police received reports of shots fired in the area of 24th Avenue and NW 168th Street.

When officers arrived at 2435 NW 168 Street they found a bullet ridden car in front of a home, inside the car was the body of 16-year old Jemmelle Raymond.

"I heard the shots - pow, pow, pow, pow - I rolled out of my bed on the floor," said Inez Harris.

A second male who was shot, identified as 18-year old Dre'quan Burnett, was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center where he died.
A third occupant of the car, 20-year old Rodney Goree, was also shot and was taken to the hospital where he was listed as stable.

Neighbors say the home where the shooting happened belonged to Raymond's great grandmother; he and his brother would come over and hang out there with their friends.

Raymond's older brother Trimmell Raymond Jr. was shot and killed near the 6900 block of NW. 6th Court in Liberty City several weeks ago. The neighbors believe those bullets were meant for Jemmelle and not his older brother.

"They say it was meant for him but they got the brother, all the foolishness going on and retaliation and stuff," one woman who didn't wish to be identified.

Miami Gardens police Major Ralph Suarez said while their investigation is in its early stages, this does look like it may have been some sort of gang retaliation.

Neighbors who've lived in the area for close to 50 years say it used to be a nice quite neighborhood but has since changed.

"They ain't gonna run me from here, I've been here 50 years and I ain't going nowhere," said Elmer Hollis. "A lot of people moving out, but I'm here to stay."
