Panthers Acquire Goalie Reto Berra From Avalanche For Rocco Grimaldi

SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – The Florida Panthers are keeping busy in the days leading up to the 2016 NHL Draft.

Early Thursday morning the Panthers signed defenseman Keith Yandle to a seven year deal worth $44.5 million.

Later in the day Florida made a deal to shore up its goaltending tandem for the upcoming season.

The Panthers traded forward Rocco Grimaldi to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for goalie Reto Berra.

Berra, 29, has a career record of 19-30-4 in 64 games with a 2.82 goals against average, .906 save percentage and three shutouts.

After spending his rookie season with the Calgary Flames, Berra has been much more solid during the past two seasons in Colorado.

In 33 games with the Avalanche, Berra has a 10-12-1 record with a 2.53 goals against average and .920 save percentage.

Grimaldi, 23, has played in 27 career NHL games, scoring 4 goals and 2 assists to go with a minus-3 on-ice rating.

Florida selected Grimaldi in the second round of the 2011 NHL Draft.
