Central Florida Man Survives Gator Attack After It Spooks Horses

SUMTER COUNTY (CBSMiami) -- A central Florida man is recovering in the hospital after he was bit by an alligator near his Bushnell home in Sumter County.

Deputies said the 58-year-old man was on his property when he noticed his horses were acting restless. When he went to check on them, he was attacked by the gator.

Emergency crews arrived to see the man on the ground, about 5 feet from the gator.

They were able to drag him away safely to treat him.

The alligator measured roughly 8 feet long. Officials said it had been out there spooking the horses.

The man was rushed to the hospital with a gash along his leg.

The alligator was killed.
