MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Authorities say a reverse drug sting operation resulted in an officer having to draw his weapon and fire.

It happened near NW 95th St. and NW 27th Ave. some time after 9 p.m, in what was the third police-involved shooting in South Florida on Wednesday, although none are considered related.

Police said an undercover officer was making a drug buy when the suspect reached toward his waistband, forcing the officer to pull out his weapon and shoot.

The suspect, however, was not hit and was taken into custody.

After the scene, investigators could be seen marking bullet casings as they blocked off roads and redirected traffic.

Earlier in the day, another shooting involved a Florida Highway Patrol trooper in Miami Gardens following a traffic stop along the Palmetto Exwy.

A little later, Miami-Dade Police shot and wounded an armed teen, believed to be involved in a carjacking last week.
