MIAMI GARDENS(CBSMiami) -- A shooting near a Miami Gardens school Monday prompted a lockdown.
City officials said the shooting happened in the yard of a home around the corner from Myrtle Grove Elementary.
A man was shot in the leg but the injury was not considered life-threatening.
Chopper4 was over the scene as a man hobbled out of an SUV and onto a gurney. Crews rushed him to a nearby hospital.
Following the shooting, the school was briefly placed on lockdown but was lifted within the hour.
Blondel Hines was on a porch just across from the school.
"I've just heard gunshots and it was about seven....boom, boom, boom, boom," she said.
The incident was unsettling for parents whose kids were within gunshot.
"Very shocked. I didn't know that this would happen. I'm just trying to get my baby and I'm happy that he's safe," said parent Tarmeka Smith.
Marian Baker was picking up her grandson.
"Well it's just kind of getting crazy now," said Baker.
Authorities have not released any information on a possible suspect or suspects in the shooting.
A man was detained but it's not clear if he was arrested.
It is unclear what prompted the incident.
