Exclusive: Elle Macpherson Using The "Power Of The Purse" To Help South Florida Women

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Legendary supermodel Elle Macpherson is using her fame to help the lives of women in South Florida.

On Wednesday night, Macpherson played host at the rooftop party at the new Hermes store in the Miami Design District.

This was preview to Thursday's fundraiser called the "Power Of The Purse" which benefits the Women's Fund of Miami-Dade.

"One of the reasons I got involved in Women's Fund when I first arrived in Florida, I felt like a fish out of water," the Australian-born Macpherson explained. "I didn't know very many people and I released the best way to combat that was through service."

More than 800 people will be on hand to raise money for women's causes in Miami-Dade.

"It's a great afternoon to hear stories of women we've helped and touches your heart and opens up your mind," she told CBS4's Lisa Petrillo.

Macpherson is married to hotelier Jeff Soffer, the owner of the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

"Are you enjoying South Florida?" Petrillo asked her.

"I'm so happy here. My here my kids are in a great school, they are happy. I adore my family, my husband's family. I am adapted, happy here now," she said.

Macpherson is also a business woman. She has cofounded a luxury wellness brand called WelleCo, which features the Super Elixir and other healthy products.

"I must ask you about your body! I need tips, tips, tips!" Petrillo said.

"I'm not a gym bunny, I choose things I like. Might paddle board or swim or water ski.  So I think for me communing with the outside for me is very important," she responded. "I also have lots of laughter and love and water."

The Power of the Purse is on Thursday at the Bank United Center at the University of Miami. They expect raise around $350,000.
