MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A teen is in extremely critical condition after being shot in Little Havana Tuesday evening.

Miami police said officers responded to a shooting at around 6:15 p.m. at the corner of NW 10th Ave. and NW 1st St.

The 16-year-old victim was reportedly confronted by a man who pointed a gun and shot him several times.

"I was napping and heard the bunch of shots," said neighbor Roberto Putch.

Miami Fire Rescue rushed the teen to the Ryder Trauma Center.

Police believe the shooter fled eastbound on NW 1st St.

City of Miami detectives flooded the area asking lots of question.

"We do know it is one man. We do not know if he was on a bike or on foot when the shooting occurred," said Miami police spokesperson Kenia Fallat.

It is unknown if the victim and the gunman knew each other. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

"When the gun fire erupted there was a large crowd. Someone may have seen or heard something," Fallat said.

Even with a nearby crowd, investigators have not been able to get a good description of the shooter.

If you have any information that can help police, you are urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.

The string of youth violence in Miami continues. Another teen was fatally shot in Miami Gardens earlier in the day.
