MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A police-involved shooting is under investigation in northwest Miami-Dade Monday night.
According to Miami-Dade police, Francisco Perez Trejo was shot at NW 90th St. and NW 26th Ave. at around 8 p.m.
It happened after two officers approached Perez's car who had a female passenger inside.
Authorities said the 44 year old would not lower his window and appeared to be looking for something, reaching for something.
"The vehicle refused to stop. The driver began to make abrupt movements inside the vehicle as if he was reaching for something," said Miami-Dade police spokesperson Jennifer Capote.
Investigators said the officers involved felt threatened by these actions and opened fire.
At one point, almost 30 officers were on the scene.
Perez was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. His condition is currently unknown.
The woman who was in Perez's car has been detained.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation.
The head of the Miami-Dade Police Benevolent Association was also at the scene.
"They are here to do a job. We are here to do our job. As long as both sides can agree to that, we can co-exist," said John Rivera.
