Cool Front To Bring Relief From Summer Like Temps

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - We'll get a bit of a reprieve from our summer like temps beginning this weekend thanks to a relatively rare April cool front.

Currently, a strong area of high pressure just off the east coast of the U.S. is moving farther away to the east allowing our winds to turn more into the south the next couple of days. When those winds come in from the lower latitudes, it typically grows very warm here in South Florida.

Our highs will be near 90 degrees today and tomorrow with little cooling relief at the beaches. That will put us very close to the record highs which are right around 90 both days, said CBS4 meteorologist John Gerard.

That cold front that has caused severe weather and tornadoes across the middle of the nation this week is pushing east and weakening but what's left of it will move into South Florida later this weekend.

An increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected here with a turn toward cooler weather by Sunday and Monday.

Because it's April and the sun is growing stronger every day now, the highs will be around 80 but that's still about 10 degrees cooler than it will be today and tomorrow. The humidity will drop considerably as well heading into early next week making it feel more comfortable.
