MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Officials have confirmed that the body of a missing 18-year-old has been found after he jumped into the Haulover inlet.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, police and the Coast Guard searched for hours Wednesday morning for the teen, who went for a swim along with his cousin.

"They're local guys, local boys. Not sure what they were doing there. But one of them did come out of the water," said Abel Fernandez with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Witness Diana Fabrega said she saw both boys jump in.

"The other seemed to have got caught in the rip current here and disappeared pretty quickly underwater," said Fabrega. "It's unusual for swimmers to jump into the waters here and swim just for fun. Usually when things like this happen it's with jet skiers and boats, when the currents are really strong."

Wednesday's current looked to be a challenge for even the most experienced rescue diver.

"Normally this is a cut where there's always an active current going in. Inexperienced boaters get themselves into trouble all the time up on the rocks," said Fernandez.
