MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- On the final day of early voting in South Florida, residents took advantage of the shorter lines and cast their ballots for the state's Presidential Preference Primary.

In Broward, where early voting began last weekend, more than 82,000 ballots were cast at voting sites across the county. The county's elections department reports as of Sunday, March 6th, nearly 75,000 voted absentee.

"I work on Tuesday. I might have a hard time getting here after work so I wanted to make sure I voted," said Gina Diaz.

It's clear South Floridians like to vote early and vote absentee.

"It's good for me, it gives me time enough to come. I don't have to rush," said Sarah McKoy.

In Miami-Dade, where early voting is concluding its second week, the elections department reports more than 83,000 have cast ballots at voting sites since February 29th. An additional 114,532 absentee ballots were returned through Saturday.

"I think these elections are very important for the future of the United States," said Jeffrey Triana. "And I think they are the most important elections in the last 20 years."

Early voters were able to select any polling location within the county they live in to cast their ballot, rather than the designated station in their neighborhood, like the Primary.

Florida's Presidential Preference Primary Election is Tuesday, March 15th. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
