MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) -- A group of five miniature horses were on the run Wednesday morning near Florida's Turnpike.

The horses had gotten out of a home in Miramar near the Turnpike.

"I think they were looking for freedom," said neighbor Benny Puentes.  "We had a break away high speed chase. We had some donkeys on the highway thankfully FHP was here to keep them under control."

Well actually they aren't donkey's. They are miniature horses. Puentes spotted the herd during the morning rush.

"Luckily, I was out for a jog and saw them," said Puentes.

His morning jog turned into more of a workout. He along with others helped Florida Highway Patrol corral the runaway horses.

Chopper4  was over the scene as authorities tried to round them up near Red Road and I-75.

Authorities could be seen going after the group who would then run in the opposite direction.

"There was a hole in the fence over there at that empty property next-door and they ended up on the highway side road," said Puentes.

Around 9 a.m., the ponies were back in a fenced area. The ponies were not injured.

"No nobody was hurt except for a little cut on the finger but we're alright," said Puentes.
