Students S-P-E-L-L Success At Jungle Island

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Students from across South Florida put their spelling skills to the test Tuesday for the Miami Herald's 76th annual spelling bee competition.

For a second year in a row, Vasundara Govindarajan won the spelling bee with the word epulation. She is a 6th grade student at the Archimedean School in Miami.

Students from 300 elementary and middle school from Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe Counties took part in the event.

This year's "Bee" for Miami-Dade and Monroe counties was held at Jungle Island. CBS4's Mike Cugno and Donna Rapado emceed the event.

The Broward version will be held Tuesday, March 15th, at the Signature Grand in Davie.

The middle achool winner at the competition represents his or her county and will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. There is one middle school winner from Miami-Dade/Monroe and one winner from Broward County.
