Strong Storms Possible Into Wednesday Evening

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A dangerous winter storm, which is moving through the southern U.S., has produced blizzard conditions across parts of Illinois and Indiana and killer tornadoes from the Gulf Coast to the Carolinas.

At least three people were killed in Louisiana and Mississippi, dozens more injured.

The track of this storm is much farther north than the past several systems so the threat of widespread severe weather is small here in South Florida.

However, the combination of daytime heating and the approaching cold front could be enough to produce isolated severe storms capable of producing strong damaging wind gusts between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. That would be the exception to the rule but we all need to remain on high alert for the possibility of damaging winds and severe storms for several hours this evening.

Skies will clear later this evening and we'll enjoy an extended period of dry, cooler weather for the remainder of the week and through the weekend.
