MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A verbal dispute at Dadeland Mall ended in a police-involved shooting.

Miami-Dade Police said Michael Guzman, 36, was having dinner with his wife and other family members on Tuesday just before 10 p.m.

At one point, a verbal dispute escalated and Guzman began to pull his wife away by her arms - trying to remove her from the table.

One of the family members that was attempting to leave got out of his car to help Guzman's wife.

That's when, police say, Guzman pulled his wife into the family member's car and tried to drive off. The wife, in an attempt to escape, opened the door and jumped out of the moving car.

Investigators who were working nearby in an unrelated case jumped in to help. They said, while Guzman was trying to get away, he drove directly towards the detectives prompting one of them to fire. No one was injured.

That didn't stop Guzman, police said. He allegedly sped off but authorities were later able to find him near S.W. 88th Street and SW 61st Avenue trying to get away in another car that belonged to a family member.

Police took Guzman into custody. Charges are pending.

Guzman's wife was taken to the hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

The incident prompted parts of the mall to be closed down during the investigation.
