Miami Sheds Clothes For Cupid's Undie Run

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Hundreds of scantily clad runners are taking to the streets of Miami for a good cause.

Considered the world's largest underwear run, Cupid's Undie Run is the charity event helping to raise awareness for neurofibromatosis, a genetic condition that typically involves tumor growth.

"Kids with NF have to overcome challenges on a daily basis," said Chad Leathers, co-founder of Cupid's Undie Run. "This event puts people in an uncomfortable situation while putting some hilarity in charity."

About 25,000 people have participated in the event across 36 cities in both the U.S. and Australia. To date, Cupid's Undie Run has donated nearly $8 million to Children's Tumor Fund for research that would end neurofibromatosis, commonly called "NF."

The first Cupid's Undie Run was held in Washington, D.C. with more than 650 runners and six-feet of snow.

"What started as a small event to help a friend has grown into a global fundraising phenomenon that includes the support of the entire NF community with a mission to end NF," said Bobby Gill, co-founder of Cupid's Undie Run.

Gill and Brendan Hanrahan started the run when their friend, Drew, Chad's younger brother, became a paraplegic after a battle with NF.

The Saturday afternoon fun run is about a mile long and is being coordinated at The Mana Wynwood Tent at 2250 N.W. 2nd Avenue in Miami.
