MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- After a package containing a child's medicine was stolen from the mailbox of a Coral Gables home, the homeowner is hoping surveillance video can identify the suspected thief.

Video of the crime Thursday, near Catalonia Avenue and Toledo Street, was captured by the home's security system first showing a woman get out of a vehicle parked along the street. She casually walks up to the home's front door, grabs a package from the mailbox and stuffs it into her purse before leaving.

"Just to be so brazen,"said homeowner Matthew McClure,"and the fact that my girlfriend was actually home, it's very brazen."

The homeowner said that package contained medicine his child needs.

"Just the lowest of the low.  What kind of person does that,"asked McClure. "I hope you're happy. You took medicine from a kid."

He posted the video to YouTube saying, "UPS delivered a package to my house which was promptly stolen" and filed a police report.

In the video, we also see another man get out of the car and go in a different direction.  Moments later, he gets back in the car. It appears he's holding something, possibly another package.

A couple miles away says they have a similar story in Coral Gables.  In this case, the crook caught stealing a package from someone's door was a man.

"He was very brazen about it," said homeowner Matt Massarella. "He was on his phone. He sauntered up to the house, our house like he lives here!"

Inside the box were air conditioner filters.  They are not a pricey item, but it's something he does not own.

"Your home is your castle. You expect to be safe and secure," said Mazzarella "and somebody like this kind of throws those emotions out the door."

Police say it's best to have deliveries made to your work or to a place where someone is home.  Especially now --with Valentine's Day just around the corner -- that's when crooks love to shop on your porch.

"We do know there are savvy criminals,  not clever, but savvy criminals," said Kenia Fallat from the Miami Police Department, (they) are out there trying to look for those unattended packages and no one in that driveway and can just pick up that package and go."
