MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An investigation is underway into a Miami Gardens property where a number of animals were found in bad shape.

The South Florida SPCA said they found a number of horses and other animals living in squalor Wednesday .

Chopper4 was over the scene where people could be seen trying to help one of the horses by giving it water.

"She is dying, she probably is dying," said an SPCA volunteer. "She is a baby. She is 2 1/2 to 3 years old."

The young horse was not alone. Four others were found in less stressful condition.

"Unfortunately, the first we took, the baby is one of the worst one," said David Bustamante who is with the SPCA. "The others are in bad condition but not horrible, they have a better chance to survive."

They also said there was a dead dog found on the property located at 159th Street and Red Road.

Animal control and Miami Gardens police were called out to the scene, which the SPCA is calling an animal cruelty investigation.

This is not the first time abused horses have been found at this location.

The stalls are rented out on an individual basis.

The horses were removed and taken to the Homestead area to be nursed back to health.

It is unclear if any charges will be filed at this time.
