Mario Cristobal, the former Miami Hurricanes player and assistant who is currently on Nick Saban's staff at Alabama, is at the top of the Miami Hurricanes' list for its next head coach, according to Football Scoop, but they're unsure if others are on par with him.

Our source was unable to say whether Cristobal is alone at the top of the list or not but it is clear there is real interest from The U on this one, and that aligns with what local high school coaches think would be a good hire for Miami. 247 sports asked a number of local high school coaches who they felt Miami should hire and there was strong support for Cristobal.

The Miami-born former Canes offensive lineman has served as Alabama's offensive line coach since 2013 and won National Recruiter of the Year last season. His last head coaching stint was at FIU, where he went 27-47 but led the school to its first winning season in 2010, also winning the Sun Belt Conference championship.

Cristobal briefly joined Miami's staff in 2013 but took the Bama job a few weeks later.
