MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The Traffic Homicide Unit for the Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that left one dead and four others hospitalized.

It happened early Sunday morning near the 5000-block of N.W. 32nd Avenue.

Detectives said a Chevy Camaro was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and ending up sliding into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a Dodge Charger.

The impact caused one man to be ejected from the Camaro.

Gabriel Hernandez, a witness still dressed in his Halloween costume, said he heard tires screech just before the crash and rushed over to help.

"I didn't know there was a body there until I got closer. And I saw that, and then I just reacted," said a visibly shaken Hernandez. "You see that happen and you figure, you do the best that you can. I learned CPR and just put all my effort into it. It didn't work out."

Fire Rescue units pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The remaining people inside the Camaro were all taken to JMH Ryder Trauma Center and are listed in stable condition. The driver of the Charger was also hospitalized and listed as stable.

Investigators said they have not ruled out alcohol or drugs playing a factor in the crash.
