MIAMI (CBSMiami) - An American Airlines flight from Miami to Chicago had to make an emergency landing after a woman became very disruptive.

The pilot decided to divert the flight to Indianapolis Airport after the unruly woman, identified as 12-year old Daniela Velez-Reyes, struck a flight attendant and a passenger.

"The captain gets on the P.A. and kind of frantically says 'Cabin lock down, cabin lock down, any strong able-bodied men who are willing to assist please ring your call button," said Brian Salvi who was on board the flight. "Just the tone of the captain and the lack of information we had, I mean for a good five to 10 minute period, your mind is just kind of racing and thinking the worst possible things."

Salvi added that once they were told that it was only a disruptive passenger, and not a more serious situation, there was an enormous sense of relief.

Velez-Reyes was subdued and taken to the back of the plane. She reportedly kicked an airport police officer as she was being escorted off the plane.

Velez-Reyes is facing a number of charges including disorderly conduct, battery and criminal recklessness.
