MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police and troopers are investigating an incident where a driver was shot at on I-95 in northwest Miami-Dade on Tuesday.

Miami-Dade Police and Florida Highway Patrol responded to Jackson North Medical Center, where the driver and his passenger, rushed themselves in for treatment.

Troopers said the driver was in his white Mercedes on I-95 northbound, between NW 135th and 151st street, when someone in a black vehicle started shooting.

"The driver himself was struck by a projectile on his bicep and sustained injuries," said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez. "The passenger, based on him seeing that they were shooting at the vehicle, he decided to jump out of the vehicle onto I-95, where he received severe road rash."

The driver stopped the vehicle to allow the passenger to jump back in. The driver then drove to Jackson North for treatment and that's where the investigation was going on.

"The driver was transported from Jackson North to Aventura Hospital, where apparently he was taken care of and they removed a bullet projectile from his bicep," said Sanchez.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
