MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A police involved shooting took place in Miami on Sunday afternoon.

The Miami Police Department responded to a 911 call at 2482 SW 3rd Street in reference to a male beating on a female.

When police arrived they found a woman with several lacerations on her body, but the offender was not there.

Soon after, the offender returned and reports of gunfire followed.

He then sped off in an SUV and led officers on a chase through Little Havana in the pouring rain that lasted about six blocks.

The offender pulled over in the area of southwest 30th Avenue and 4th Street and pointed his gun at the officers.

Ignoring the verbal commands from authorities, the offender continued to point his gun at the officers which forced them to open fire.

The man was then transported to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The officers who were involved in the shooting are now on administrative duty as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the incident.

The woman at the first scene where police responded to the 911 call is expected to be ok. She was also transported to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.

Her injures are non-life threatening.

Miami Police will continue investigating the domestic call.
