Baldinger: The Miami Dolphins Lack Mental Toughness

Interviews-wqam

Are the Dolphins or anyone else in the retooled AFC East primed to dethrone the defending Super Bowl-champion Patriots?

"We know the Dolphins just have not been a tough team," NFL Network's Brian Baldinger said on the Joe Rose Show. "physically, mentally, the month of December, they just have no toughness whatsoever. We've seen the same thing in Buffalo. Plenty of chances in Buffalo. Just no mental toughness to overcome whether it's injuries, free agency, whatever it is. We know they have that in New England. So that's what all these other three teams don't have.

"How do you build that into a team? Is it personnel? Is it coaching? Is it belief? Is it just the quarterback? What is it that the Patriots have? You can't tell me that any other quarterback in this league could have won a Super Bowl with the talent surrounding Tom Brady, outside of Rob Gronkowski. I mean it looks like everybody else's roster or worse, yet they did it and they overcame injuries all over the defensive front, on the offensive line, and so that's the missing component that these other teams have got to find and we know they don't have it in Miami and have not had it under Joe Philbin. And then they didn't have it for a decade, like you said. So can they get that? Can they find that?
