MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Miami Police are searching for a man who robbed a gas station at gunpoint while customers were inside.
Surveillance cameras captured images of the robber who walked into a Marathon Gas Station convenience store located at 3501 NW 22nd Avenue around 4 p.m on May 1st.
The masked man, waved around what looked like a shotgun, pointing it at the clerk and the customers inside who dropped to the ground.
“That was quite brazen on his part. What he did was point the shotgun at everybody inside the store and demanded the money behind the register,” said Kenia Fallat with Miami Police.
In fear for his life, officers said, the clerk complied and gave the bandit all the cash.
That’s when the robber grabbed the money, stormed out and rushed into a white Ford Escort or Toyota that was driven by an accomplice.
A clerk told CBS4’s Donna Rapado, the woman who was working the day of the robbery was so terrified she quit immediately.
One of the customers inside at the time of the robbery was also carrying their own concealed gun but police won’t specify who. Officer Fallat does say in that moment, that customer made the right decision not pulling it out against a shotgun.
“He did think clearly and we do know that had he pulled out his gun perhaps it would have been disastrous,” said Fallat.
Officers said the robber is described as a white Hispanic man, 5’8” tall, weighing about 170 lbs, hazel eyes with light brown hair.
He was last seen wearing a gray sweater with black lines in the arms, gray gym pants with black pants underneath, a green shirt partially covering his face and a black baseball cap.
“He is definitely considered armed and dangerous,” said Fallat.
Investigators said there is no description for the getaway driver.
Anyone who recognizes the armed bandit in the video is urged to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
