CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – Patriotic songs filled the air at the famed Biltmore Hotel as the City of Coral Gables, along with several sponsors, hosted a Fourth of July celebration that brought people together from all over South Florida.

The hot weather couldn't deter people from getting there early to stake out their spot for the fireworks later on.

"I've always heard this is one of the places to be on the fourth of July.  There's a great celebration, very well-organized.  The fireworks are for a good length of time," said event-goer Jorge Gomez.

With the city marking its 90th anniversary, the fireworks display was supposed to be one of the best ever.

CBS4's anchors Eliott Rodriguez and Irika Sargent emceed the event.

Some of the festivities across South Florida started much earlier.

The City of Weston held a patriotic parade following a 5K run/walk.

Fort Lauderdale also held a celebration, with beach goers enjoyed the sun and surf.

"We just waiting for the most awesome fireworks in the world," said beach-goer Elmer Emeric.
