Porter: 'Not Just All About Al Golden' for Miami Recruits

Interviews-wqam

The Miami Hurricanes have been stockpiling their recruiting classes of late, tallying 27 verbal commitments for the 2016 and 2017 classes combined.

Whether the team has another rough year after going 6-7 last season, the Palm Beach Post's Matt Porter doesn't think a chunk of their recruits will end up bailing.

"A lot of people say if [Al Golden] goes 6-7 again or 7-6 or something like that, all those recruits are gone," Porter said on the Kup and Crowder Show. "I'm not so doomsday about that. I don't think that all the recruits are gonna bolt if they don't win this year.

"I think a lot of these kids these days, they have become a little bit savvier about the recruiting process and they commit to the program rather than the coach. And really that's the way you should do it anyway."

After talking to several recruits at a 7-on-7 tournament hosted at UM this past weekend, Porter says "they like UM as a school, as a program" and "it's not really just all about Al Golden."

What is troubling, though, was Porter's response when Channing Crowder asked what unit of the team Golden hangs his hat on.

"Uh, I don't know," Porter answered.
