FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – One person is dead and two others were rushed to the hospital after a boating accident late Saturday night, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said.

The accident happened just before 8 p.m. on the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale.

According to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers, two boats were traveling together when one of those boats hit a concrete dock.

They said one person was thrown from the boat. That person has died.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said two people were taken to the Broward Health Medical Center in serious condition.

Fort Lauderdale Police and FWC investigators were at the scene, located at near NE 38th Street, working to determine exactly how it happened.

"Fort Lauderdale Police has loaned us there crime scene unit to photograph the scene. We've got the dock, multiple boats, multiple people involved to really piece together what happened," said FWC Officer Liz Barraco. "So it's going to be a long process, but we're going to work really hard to find out what happened here tonight."

FWC says there were 10 people total between the two boats.

It's not clear whether the second boat was involved in the crash in any way or whether the two boats were simply traveling together.
